Open Source Office Programs
There are loads of open source office programs available that can easily replace your Microsoft Office packages, if you are just about to buy a new PC or upgrade your operating system then this is the perfect time to try one. If you don't feel like handing over the money for the latest version of Word then don't worry because we have some great office programs that are totally free and compatible with the Microsoft formats and filled with similar or improved features.

First up and our favourite open source office suite program is Open Office. If you want to edit your word documents you can use Open Office Writer, or use Open Office Calc to handle your Excel spreadsheets. Open Office is very user friendly and easy to install with nicely designed interfaces that should make you feel right at home transitioning from the Microsoft packages. Our second choice in this category is AbiWord which is an unrestricted freeware download that is a very fine word processor and can easily replace Microsoft word and saves and reads all the major file formats. If you don't want a full suite of programs like Open Office provides and just need a word processor then i would say go for AbiWord, its light fast and easy to use with a great interface and design.
